Keeping your skin in great shape can seem like an overwhelming task. This is especially true if you struggle between oily and dry skin or suffer from conditions like acne or eczema. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to help ensure that your skin is as healthy as possible regardless of what you’re struggling with. Let’s take a look at the essentials to great skin!

1. Drink Plenty of Water

Water is vital to skin that is healthy and glowing. Make sure that you drink at least eight glasses of water at minimum. In fact, more is even better! Look at it like this: proper hydration is important to keep your body and your organs healthy. Your skin is really just one big organ, so it makes sense that drinking water is important to keeping it in good shape.

2. Drink Plenty of Orange Juice, Too
Our favorite breakfast drink has more benefits than just going great with an omelet. Orange juice is rich in Vitamin C - essential in the production of collagen, helping your skin stay smooth and youthful.

3. Avoid Steamy Showers
We all love a good, relaxing shower, but in order to get great skin – skip the heat. Instead, go for a more room-temperature or even cold shower to avoid having the hot water strip your skin of moisture. Hot showers can cause inflammation of the skin, and sometimes even redness, itching, and peeling. With a cooler and shorter shower, you’re not only benefiting your skin, but also reducing the amount of water wasted – it’s a win-win.

4. Get a Good Night’s Sleep
In addition to drinking enough water, getting plenty of sleep is important for your skin, too. There are a few reasons for this. First of all, enough sleep is good for your mental and physical health. This good health naturally reflects via your skin and can really help you get that glow for which you might be looking. In addition to that, sleeping allows your body and mind to rest – including your skin. Getting enough quality sleep gives your skin enough time to refresh itself.

5. Try Acupuncture
When you think about ways to ensure your skin is in excellent health, you might not immediately think of acupuncture. In reality, however, the practice can have great effects upon the health of your skin. It can help even out your skin tone, for example, while reducing redness and inflammation. You might even find that acupuncture leaves your face with fewer wrinkles and fine lines. This ancient remedy has been used to help treat ailments for centuries, so it should come as no surprise that certain types of acupuncture can boost your skin health.

6. Wash Your Face
Washing your face daily is a good practice to keep. This is true even if you don’t think you got “dirty” during the day. Sweating is a good reason to take a shower and clean your skin, but it’s not the only indication that a quick wash is necessary. Even sitting at a desk is enough activity to warrant a quick cleanse, especially if you’ve been wearing makeup. Pay attention to the ingredients in your cleanser, too, and ensure that you’re using something conducive to the health of your specific skin.

7. Use Sunscreen
Spending time in the sun and sporting a golden tan might seem like a worthy goal during the summer months, but the truth is that the sun can have harmful consequences for your skin’s health. To help avoid sun damage, use sunscreen every day, even if you don’t plan on spending much time outside.

8. Ice, Ice, Baby

Similar to using ice to reduce inflammation of an injury, ice can be extremely beneficial for your skin by reducing and preventing those nasty skin breakouts. Ice can also be used as an amazing and natural exfoliant. If you do use ice to benefit your skin, be sure to keep the ice moving on your face. When ice stays in the same place on your skin for an extended period of time, it can leave a burn like heat.
